Bangkok Shopping

Yesterday was an interesting day of shopping and an 'excrusion' (as Travel Boy calls it).
We took the very clean and very nice Bangkok subway to the Chatuchak Market, which is supposed to be the biggest open air market in Asia.
Wow. They are not kidding. It is 35 acres and consists of over 10,000 stalls! Between the huge crowds (99.9999% which were local Thais), the heat and humidity, and the interesting and unique smells, it was very overwhelming. At some points, it was shoulder to shoulder people.
You can get almost anything at this market - knockoff designer clothes, jewelry, books (including a still-wrapped 2004 SI swimsuit calendar), crafts, puppies, kittens, birds, huge life size buddhas, knock-off Rolexes, and tons and tons of food. I was disappointed in Travel Gal in having only purchased 2 small bags worth of stuff.

The heat and crowds got to us (plus I was experiencing a bit of stomach discomfort - ah, Bangkok street food!) so we hopped on the subway and headed into the city. We found ourselves at a very modern shopping mall. We stopped for pizza (Travel Boy was thrilled). We then visited SE Asia's largest Aquarium. It was very nice and Travel Boy loved it. We even sat in a small tub in our bare feet while tiny fish nibbled at our feet - they nibble the dead skin off your feet. Very funny. After we ate at the largest and nicest food court we have ever seen. Cheap and delicious Thai and Asian food.. Amazing!

This morning we fly to Chiang Mai. We may try to ride an elephant - stay tuned!
